Four Points Preparatory Academy in Braselton has opened an additional kindergarten class, bringing the total number of kindergarten classes to five.

“It is going great,” Principal Amanda Brown said at the Four Points Prep School Board’s Aug. 18 meeting. “So, we were able to get the class sizes down to about 19, 20, so that’s been really, really helpful for the teachers.

Overall, Four Points had 391 students in K-5 on Day 1, following an opening day of 389 students on July 31. The school has started reaching out to all families who opted not to enroll to see if they’re interested in attending.

“Because some of them could be homeschoolers,” Four Points Prep School Board Chairperson Pam Estabrooke said. “They could not be in a county school.”

“We’re going to call all of those families,” Brown added.

In other news, Brown announced that the school hopes to begin offering intramural athletics by October. Sports will include soccer, tee ball, basketball, chess, checkers, LEGO and mahjong.

Four Points Preparatory Academy is ready to open its doors.

The new Braselton charter school received its certificate of occupancy on July 14 and will welcome its first students on July 31 when classes start.

“We are full steam ahead,” said Four Points Prep School Board Chairperson Pam Estabrooke, who noted that teachers have already moved in and are decorating their classrooms.

While some exterior site work still needs to be finished, everything else is in place, as the old West Jackson Primary School site will once again function as a school. It’s been 10 years since the structure has held students.

“I could not be happier with how the building looks and the response from the community,” Estabrooke said. “It’s been what we envisioned it to be.”

Four Points Prep held a ribbon cutting Tuesday (July 22) to celebrate the moment, drawing a large crowd to the school’s cafeteria. Four Points Prep anticipates welcoming well over 400 students on the first day of the school year.

“You are the first of many who will make goals, dreams about your future and impact this community and beyond,” Four Points Principal Amanda Brown said to students during her address at the ribbon cutting.

Four Points Prep will continue to take registration through early August.

A Braselton-area charter school group commemorated three years of work and planning with a construction kickoff for Four Points Preparatory Academy on Monday.

The school will be housed in the Braselton-owned former West Jackson Primary School building at 4825 Hwy. 53. It will open in the fall of 2025 with an attendance zone serving multiple counties.

“We consider it our honor — our absolute honor — to bring school choice to the parents of Jackson, Barrow, Banks, Hall and Gwinnett counties,” said Four Point Preparatory Academy Board Chairperson Pam Estabrooke.

Four Points Prep will offer grades K-5 with plans to add one grade per year until serving K-8 in 2028-29. The school will have an enrollment of approximately 772 students when all grade levels are added.

Renovations will begin on the West Jackson Primary School site to ready it for next school year. The improvements will include a new kitchen, roof, and flooring, along with an exterior parking lot, queuing expansion, and offsite roadway improvements.

Officials in attendance on Monday posed for pictures with shovels as the renovation process starts.

The school will be overseen by a local board and operated by National Heritage Academies (NHA). Landon Brown, a Director of School Quality for NHA, spoke at Monday’s ceremony.

“This is going to be a great, exciting adventure and a journey, and we all know that the school and the community cannot live apart,” Brown said. “And, so, we start that process by having an enthusiastic board.”

In addition to Estabrooke, four board members attended Monday’s ceremony: Diane Basham (vice chair), Spencer Thomas (treasurer), Indria Bashley (secretary) and Mike Bell (director).

“We would not be here today if it was not for this group,” Estabrooke said.

Estabrooke credited Braselton Mayor Kurt Ward, who contacted her three years ago about the project, for his vision to bring a charter school to the Braselton community, which sits at the intersection of four counties.

“His vision was that an abandoned school building sitting in the middle of downtown was a great opportunity to bring a unified addition to downtown,” Estabrooke said.

Estabrooke also pointed to the future as the fall of 2025 approaches.

“We are thankful for the families, hundreds of them at this point, that have trusted us to educate their children,” she said. “We look forward to the teachers and staff that are going to work in this building … and really look forward to building relationships with businesses and other parts of our community that are going to support us, and we’re going to support them for years to come.”
